City of Cape Town urges residents to be aware of scamming con artists

Mbasa Gqokoma 03 July 2015

Due to several housing scams reported in the city, Cape Town’s Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements Benedicta Van Minnen urges residents to avoid getting scammed by con artists.

Some residents have claimed they bought housing units from people who then disappeared with the money.

Mayoral Committee Member Benedicta Van Minnen said, City of Cape Town is greatly concerned about these reports of fraud artists pretending to be selling land or housing opportunities to residents of the City of Cape Town.

“This is nothing more than fraud and needs to be reported to SAPS as soon as it occurs”

The City would also see to it that, housing beneficiaries on our housing data base are not expected to make any financial contributions towards a housing opportunity, Van Minnen added.
