Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa said the matter regarding the five South Africans detained in china is being dealt with rapidly.

Ramaphosa is currently on an official visit to People’s Republic of China.

Ten South Africans who were part of a tour group were arrested last week after they were accused of being linked to a terror group and watching propaganda films in their hotel.

Five of them have been released and will be back in the country on Friday.

The other five remain in a detention centre in China.

Ramaphosa said “we are hoping that there would be a solution as time goes on, so that matter is being handled and we think it’s best to leave it at that level because the Chinese officials as well as our Department of International Relations are dealing with the matter actively on hour by hour basis, it is being addressed”
