The Western Cape government on Wednesday signed a 5-year Local Area Network contract to provide internet for schools in the province.

The provincial government said E-learning will enhance quality education by increasing access to quality ICT disadvantaged communities, and also provide support for struggling learners.

Young people in schools will have broadband access internet from either a tablet device or computer in one of their computer labs or even from their cellphones.

“We say that because what this means is that, the more and more we roll-out broadband the more and more people get connected, there will be an opportunity for them to keep up to date and compete in the global market.” Mpofu concluded.
