The Independent Police Investigative Directorate has confirmed that it is investigating a case of an Ekurhuleni Metro Police Constable who allegedly knocked over and killed a 3-year-old girl while he was speeding.

It is alleged the constable was speeding with a service police vehicle when he knocked the girl who died on the scene and injured a 25-year-old man in Vooslorus.

IPID Acting National Spokesperson Grace Langa said the IPID was concerned with the fact that the Metro Police did not report the matter immediately.

Langa said we were not aware of the matter until we heard it on Radio.  We feel that they did not comply and they need to account for that, but we have taken up the case and we are investigating the matter.
