Western Cape MEC of Community Safety Dan Plato has welcomed the confiscation of about 100 electronic devices from inmates at Pollsmoor Prison.

This follows a raid after news surfaced that inmates had created a Facebook page and posted images of themselves in their cells.

Correctional Services provincial spokesperson Simphiwe Xako confirmed that an investigation is underway.

MEC Plato said I think all cell phones for inmates needs to be banned.

“I do not think they need such a luxury in any jail and specifically not where they are labelled as people who are giving orders from the jails to the outside world of who next to be killed.” Plato added.
