The National Union of Mineworkers is opposed to the sale of the Kimberley Mines by De Beers Consolidated Mines.

NUM claims that the company failed to consult with NUM before announcing the sale.

NUM is also concerned that DBCM told the media about the sale before telling NUM structures.

NUM Kimberly Regional Secretary Cornelius Manhe we are opposing to the same on the Kimberly mine because we have got what we call a future forum, it is a structure whereby management and the union are discussing the production and the future of the mine.

“In this regard we oppose because the media, company or anyone from the company has ever raise an issue of the mine that is not productive with the union,” Manhe added.
