Samwu concludes wage negotiations

The South African Municipal Workers’ Union have concluded their salary and wage negotiations with Water Boards.

An across the board salary increase has been agreed upon with both Amatole Water and Bloem Water and a multi-year agreement was made with Water Solutions South Africa.

Samwu Collective Bargaining Officer Chumani Gqeke said in Bloem Water we have signed this agreement of an increase of 7.5% across the board for all the employees who are in the bargaining unit.

Gqeke said we have also agreed with the employer to push the minimum wage, all those employees who are earning R6 500 they are now earning R7 500 and a housing allowance of R1 450.


“We also agreed a new dispensation on maternity leave that all those who are on maternity leave will get 4 month full pay into the current dispensation” Gqeke added.
