The South African National Defence Force has convened a board of inquiry to determine the circumstances, surrounding a shooting incident which involved its members and personnel of the tracking company Netstar, on the border between South Africa and Mozambique.

The SANDF members fired six shots at a vehicle which happened to belong to Netstar.

Brigadier General Xolani Mabanga said during their patrols they noticed a truck that sped into the side of Mozambique using an illegal crossing which was followed by a bakkie.

Mabanga said still on the scene there were two vehicles that came from the northern part of KwaZulu-Natal towards the boarder to Mozambique. The SANDF members signalled the two vehicles to slow down and stop but that did not happen, leading to the SANDF members opening fire to the vehicles with the intention of immobilising them.

“No one was injured during the incident and the South African Police Service and Netstar did not follow due to protocol of informing the SANDF commander that they were chasing a suspected vehicle” Mabanga added.
