The South African Police Service has revamped its Central Firearm Registry following reports of allegations of corruption and maladministration.

The unit is currently handling about 12 000 application per month and is striving to process and finalise applications for firearm license within a period of 90 working days.

Police Spokesperson Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo said they are looking to counteract and combat the issues of corruption and maladministration within that environment.

"So far, we are achieving our objectives in terms of finalising applications, we are about 85% achieving our outcome and we are looking to do this in 100% level" Naidoo added.
