The Congress of People has called on government to consider lowering tax revenue following threats of retrenchments in the mining sector and the ailing economy.

Cope Spokesperson Dennis Bloem said government can only achieve better revenue intake through higher economic activity and not by squeezing the life out of the economy.

“We are fundamentally opposed to heavy taxation, because it will strangle economic growth that is why we saying government must look urgently to this because the country is going down” Bloem

Cope said it will not support the rates money amounts and amendment of revenue laws bill.
