KZN collision leaves five dead

Five people have been killed this morning after their vehicle collided with a truck on the N11 at the Driefontein off-ramp outside Ladysmith in KwaZulu Natal.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene to find the wrecked light motor vehicle stationary in the middle of the road. A heavy truck had stopped some distance away on the side of the road.

Meiring added Paramedics immediately assed the occupants on the light motor vehicle and found that five mangled bodies laid trapped.

‘’A sixth occupant sustained moderate injuries. Paramedics extricated the patient and immediately treated her for the injuries. The patient was moved to Northdale Hospital for further treatment’’

He also said Rescue serves later had to use the jaws-of-life equipment to later free the bodies from the vehicle. The driver only sustained minor injuries. He was also treated and moved to hospital for further treatment.
The cause of the collision is not yet known, but local authorities were on scene for further investigations
