Merweville road officially opened

Western Cape MEC of Transport and Public Works Donald Grant on Friday officially opened the recently Merweville road in the Central Karoo.

The over six year-long project, broken up into three phases, has been implemented in partnership between the Provincial and Municipal tiers of government.

Grant said our gravel roads network tells a slightly different story, with only 35% of these roads rated as fair to very good.

Ministerial Spokesperson Siphesihle Dube The first two phases of the project, undertaken by the Western Cape Department of Transport and Public Works, cost R43 million.
“Over 20% of that spend was allocted to BEE subcontractors in the area. The road has now surfaced and it’s been upgraded from the gravel road. MEC Grant has wished all those who will use it very well and smooth ride” Dube added.
