The Ad-hoc joint committee investigating violence against xenophobia, conducted an oversight visit in Hout Bay, following the alleged attack against foreign nationals.

The committee met with community members to discuss issues plaguing the area, such as negative attitudes and socio economic ills.

Chairperson Tekoetsile Motlashuping said, ”The committee received other challenges such as high unemployment rate, the over population of urban area, non-regulation of shop owners and business hours.

Motlashuping has said that it was the community members who then raised the issue that there was never any violence in 2015 and that there is no xenophobia.

He said that, “It is only rural elements that has engulfed the situation in Hout Bay and that it is the equivalence of socio-economic ills”

Motlashuping added, “the community also stressed, if government can come to their rescue in provision of houses.”
