South African Municipal Workers Union has served Rand Water with notice to launch a strike in 48 hours, this
move will result in a full blown industrial action at the water facility.
Samwu spokesperson Chumani Gqeke, said that Rand Water
wasted time by offering a very insignificant salary offer, leaving out the
incentive bonus and housing allowance.
Gqeke said in a statement that Rand Water had arranged
on Monday to meet with Samwu on Monday but the meeting didn’t take place
because the Rand Water negotiating team showed a lack of commitment.
SAMWU stands by their demand of 10% increase for all
lowest paid workers, 9% for middle income workers and 8% for supervisory
workers including a 12% incentive increase and R2 150 housing Allowance.
