The Democratic Alliance has
summoned Public Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown and Deputy President Cyril
Ramaphosa to Parliament to explain the R50 million salaries spent on top executives
for poor performance.
DA’s MP Natasha Mazzone said Eskom’s
Integrated Report 2015 on the entity’s financial performance for the 2014/2015
financial year shows clearly that Eskom is in a financial crisis with a revenue
having fallen from R7 billion to R3 billion during the period under
consideration.
The party has noted with
concern that although Eskom continue to perform exceptionally badly these
salaries continue to be exorbitant and increased annually.
“We find it unacceptable that
the executives are accepting these exorbitant salaries considering that they
cannot keep the lights on.
We have no problem with high
salaries being paid to experienced directors if they are in fact doing their
job but when the lights don’t stay on the executives cant be paid those
salaries,” Mazzone said.
