ER24 paramedics responded to
an accident scene late last night after a vehicle went off the bridge leaving
one person dead and another critically condition in Kariba Street in Vereeniging.
It is believed the driver of
the vehicle lost control and plunged about 20 metres over the side of the road
and into a ravine.
ER24 Spokesperson Chitra
Bodasing said when ER24 paramedics and Fire and Rescue Services arrived on
scene they found the front of the vehicle in the ravine.
“The driver believed to be 19
years old was trapped in the vehicle. Sadly there was nothing paramedics could
do for him. While Fire and Rescue Services were busy extricating the man from
the vehicle paramedics treated the passenger,” Bodasing added.
The passenger, believed to be
20 years old, was found to be in a critical condition. After stabilising the
patient, paramedics transported him to Mediclinic Vereeniging for further
medical care.
In another accident 10 people
sustained minor to moderate injuries in a collision between a Fortuner and taxi
on Beyers Naude Drive earlier this evening.
ER24 Spokesperson Chitra
Bodasing when ER24 paramedics and other services arrived on scene they found
one person entrapped in the taxi and other patients next to the taxi on the
side of the road.
She also said Fire and Rescue
Services used the Jaws of Life to extricate the patient from the taxi.
“All patients, including two
from the Fortuner, were assessed and treated for their injuries. Patients were
transported to local hospitals for further medical care,” Bodasing added.
Exact details to the cause of
the accidents will remain the subject of a police investigation.
