A woman was killed in a collision on the R300 between Van Riebeeck and the Stellenbosch arterial this morning.

Another person was left with minor injuries. Local authorities attended the incident and will conduct an investigation.

ER24 Spokesperson Werner Vermaak says shortly before 7am paramedics arrived on the scene where they found a vehicle completely ripped open in the front.

He says a woman was lying a few meters away from the wreckage. Upon assessment paramedics found that she showed no signs of life. There was nothing that they could do for her and she was declared dead on scene.

A man believed to be the driver of the vehicle, was found walking around the scene. He was assessed by paramedics and treated for cuts and bruises.

He was later transported to a nearby hospital for further medical treatment.

Meanwhile, a man was killed early last night when his vehicle crashed into the back of a small truck on the N8 towards Petrusburg, Free state.

The driver and passenger of the truck were assessed on scene but declined to be transported to hospital.

Vermaak says “Paramedics that arrived on the scene approximately 57 kilometres outside Bloemfontein found the truck well alight in a nearby veld.

He added that “The driver and passenger of the truck was found walking around on the scene. Upon further assessment paramedics found the driver of the light motor vehicle still trapped in the vehicle.”
