City and Province launches Resource Officer Programme

Western Cape MEC of Education, Debbie Schafer along with City of Cape Town Executive Mayor, Patricia De Lille and City of Cape Town Mayoral Committee Member for safety and security Alderman JP Smith officially launched the School Resource Officer unit together with United States Consul General Teddy Taylor today.

The officers will work in 12 areas that include Delft, Hanover Park, Nyanga, Gugulethu, Bishop Lavis and Manenberg.

The officers did their training in the United States Embassy and specialise in firearms, pepper spray, radio procedure and by-law training.


“The unit comprises 36 law enforcements officers who have been deployed to reduce and prevent school-related violence and crime through building excessive partnerships between 18 identified schools.” MEC Debbie Schafer’s spokesperson Jessica Shelver said
