In a statement issued, the Congress of the People says, South Africa has a president and a speaker of Parliament both of whom lack credibility.

COPE spokesperson, Dennis Bloem says, together they have ruined the image of politics and diminished the unique status of the National Assembly.

He says Baleka Mbete, as National Assembly Speaker, wilfully violated the holy principle of impartiality.

Bloem says “We can never accept that the speaker of Parliament, Mbete must make that parliament a circus. It is totally wrong for her to side to be a show one sided and give judgement whenever she thinks the ANC must get the benefit. We are saying that Mbete must be removed as a speaker and we are also demanding that secret ballot must take place.”
