The City of Cape Town’s Health Directorate is working in conjunction with a number of partners to reduce the incidence of malnutrition.

Councillor Siyabulela Mamkeli says, the Western Cape government has made available a subsidy of Four million-nine hundred and four-thousand for the 2015/2016 financial year for the Nutrition Therapeutic Programme, administered on its behalf by City Health.

Mamkeli says “The first 1000 days of a child’s life are crucial and this is a key area focus for us. He says malnutrition can result not only in physical growth inabilities but also mental development. Early detection is effective, but the longer the child remains malnourished the higher irreversible developmental damage.”
