The new student movement in South Africa has called for the decolonisation of this country’s universities.

University workers, students and staff will picket outside and on campuses around the country this afternoon.

University of Cape Town’s Brian Kamanzi says, for many years workers across universities have been struggling against outsourcing and the intolerable conditions of work in campuses.

“It is important that we take this stand as this 2015 wilds up to be year in which junior activism is beginning to take the centre stage in a way that does not involve party politics. In a way that had been addressing directly questions of decolonisation.” Kamanzi says.
