A woman and two men have been left critical condition after a head on collision on the bank road near Carletonville.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring reported when ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene, they found the two vehicles on the side of the road. Both vehicles had sustained a large amount of damage in the collision.

On assessment, paramedics discovered a man and woman trapped inside their vehicle while another man lay trapped inside the second vehicle. All three patients were found to be in a critical condition.

Paramedics and rescue services had to use the jaws-of-life to free trapped patients.

Once freed, paramedics treated the patients and provided them with advanced life support interventions.

Once treated the female patient was airlifted by a medical helicopter to Baragwanath Hospital.

“The two male patients were transported by ambulance to Carletonville Hospital.” Russel Meiring said.

The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations Meiring concluded.
