A cyclist is in a critical condition after he crashed into a concrete pole on an off-road track in Magaliesburg early this morning.

Shortly before 11am paramedics from ER24 arrived on the scene where they found the cyclist, believed to be in his twenties, being attended to by provincial emergency services.

He was in a critical condition and believed to have sustained severe head injuries.

The ER24 medical helicopter was activated to airlift him from the scene.

He was stabilised on the scene and later lifted to Charlotte Maxeke Hospital for further medical management.

According to friends on the scene, the man allegedly went down a hill on the track and lost control before crashing into the concrete pole.
