The National Sea Rescue Institute Jeffreys bay duty crew were activated following a request for assistance from the Gamtoos Ferry hotel, reporting that a family on a cabin boat was experiencing motor failure upstream on the Gamtroos river.

NSRI’s Craig Lambinon reported that the family while reportedly safe, but with motor failure to the cabin boat, the main concern was that they had a 6-month old baby on board.

“Without hesitation we towed our sea rescue craft Project Group Rescuer and launched onto the Gamtoos River and found the family, who are from Jeffery’s bay, which is 5km upstream.”  Lambinon said.

The family was taken the Gamtoos ferry lodge and no further assistance was required.
