Ten fatalities reported across Western Cape over weekend

This past weekend in the Western Cape, traffic officials held another round of roadblocks.

Twelve were held on Friday evening and twelve on Saturday evening into Sunday morning.

2243 vehicles were stopped in these roadblocks and 1385 drivers were tested for alcohol.

Western Cape Traffic chief Kenny Africa reported that 40 drunken drivers were arrested, one driver was arrested in Laingsburg for false documentation and another arrested for trying to bribe a traffic officer in Somerset West.

The total amount of fines that were issued was R327 000.

Meanwhile ten fatalities were reported across the Western Cape since the start of the weekend.


Western Cape Traffic chief Kenny Africa said that amongst the fatalities two were reported in Phillipi.
