The overall 2015 Matric results pass rate dropped by 5.1 per cent when compared to that of 2014. The Minister of Basic Education Angie Motshekga revealed this, when she officially announced the performance of the class of 2015 in Midrand, Johannesburg yesterday evening.

Motshekga however defended the drop saying it was because of the high standard of the examination papers as well as the department’s decision to promote to Grade 12 students who had not passed Grade 11

“Ladies and Gentleman our 2015 NSC overall results pass stands with all learners progress and non-progress, it says 70.7 percent down from 75.9 and I did ask the office to also calculate to say if you didn’t add progress learners where would will be. We would’ve been at 74.1 percent”, said Minister of Basic Education Angie Motshekga.
