President’s SONA reply promise to SAPS

The announcement by President Jacob Zuma during his response in the debate on the State of the Nation Address, that ‘new’ Drug and Gun units will be formed within South African Police Services, will be welcomed by many Western Cape communities and the MEC of Community Safety Dan Plato call on President Zuma to honour those who have lost lives because gang violence with immediate implementation.

Spokesperson for the MEC Ewald Botha explained… “We welcomed by some many Western Cape communities and Mr Plato calls President Zuma to honour those who has lost lives because of gang violence with immediate implementation”.

“Minister Plato has been calling for the re-introduction of specialised units since 2011 and even though there’s been positive feedback last year by the National Minister of Police of the possibility of this happening, there’s been no action to date”, He concluded.
