Two people have been killed and 18 others injured this morning after a taxi rolled multiple times off the S254 Road outside of Parys in the Free State.

“ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene shortly after 08h00 after they were contacted by provincial services”, said Russel Meiring.

“On arrival, paramedics found a taxi lying upright amongst some bush off to the side of the road”, He added.

He added that… “Reports from eyewitnesses on scene said that the taxi had apparently swerved to avoid a vehicle at a stop-and-go, the driver apparently lost control of the vehicle causing it roll into the bushes”.

“Two lifeless bodies were found on scene, a woman lying trapped in the front of the vehicle and another lying underneath the taxi”, he said.

“Unfortunately, both patients had already succumbed to their multiple fatal injuries prior to the arrival of paramedics. Nothing more could be done for the patients and they were declared dead on scene”, said Meiring.

“18 other patients were found on scene, some of them critically injured. Paramedics treated the patients and provided them with advanced life support interventions, once treated, they were transported to various hospitals for urgent treatment”, He concluded.
