The family of a 65-year-old Lenasia man held in an Egyptian prison without charge, has renewed hopes he may soon be released.

Sheikh Bassiouni was detained in 2014 on arrival in Cairo for a family visit.

Last year, he celebrated his 65th birthday in jail. But his family says this won't be the case for much longer.

In December, Bassiouni was released for just two hours to attend his daughter’s wedding in Egypt.

Since his detention, the grandfather of six has been moved to at least three
prison facilities.

The government has not yet commented on his possible release

Bilal Bassiouni said “We know his release is eminent, a pre-trial court has ruled in favour of his release this was last week Saturday, now we are just at waiting stages.”
