Minister of Justice and Correctional Services to lodge an appeal

The Minister of Justice and Correctional Services will be appealing a High Court order to release SACP leader, Chis Hani's assassin, Janusz Waluś on parole.

Michael Masutha had mentioned following the March 10 ruling that he would study the judgment to understand the basis on which it was made, before acting on it.

He said then “that the judgment may not be in line with the processes in place for granting parole, in which the healing of victims is considered key.
On Wednesday, the justice ministry released a statement in which Masutha announced his plans to launch an appeal.  

In it, he confirms that he sent his legal representatives who have "served a notice of application for leave to appeal against the judgment with the Registrar of the High Court.
