The ANC's National Executive
Committee is set to get underway in Pretoria today,
which could be seen to be a turning point for the ruling party.
It’s been a unstable period for the
ANC as allegations that the politically connected Gupta family, said to be
close to President Jacob Zuma, were making Cabinet jobs offers to party
members.
This week Deputy Finance Minister
Mcebisi Jonas and former ANC MP Vytjie Mentor claimed that the Guptas offered
them Cabinet positions by the Gupta family.
The Gupta family have denied both
allegations.
The NEC is expected to discuss this
issue and receive a report back from the ANC's top six following a meeting with
the Gupta family.
Following Jonas's revelations, the
ANC said the appointment of ministers was the president's right and was not
decided by any individuals or the Gupta family.
