Following alleged rape attacks
over the past few weeks, a 35-year-old man suspected to be the Rhodes Memorial
rapist is due to make his first court appearance today.
The man arrested on Saturday
faces a charge in connection with an alleged rape that occurred on November 19
2015, but could be linked to other attacks in the area recently.
During the attacks a
23-year-old female was allegedly raped at the bottom of the Rhodes Memorial and
robbed of her personal belongings.
Cape Town police spokesperson
Captain Andre Traut previously said the man was arrested at a hide-out on the
slopes of Table Mountain below the Rhodes Memorial.
The latest attack was on
Tuesday last week when a woman was running along the Princess Ann cycling path.
She was threatened with a knife and forced into the bushes where she was
allegedly raped.
