The IEC says there’s no need for proof of address to register

The Independent Electoral Commission says proof of address is not necessary to register to vote in the coming municipal elections. All residents will need is to provide details of an address and present a valid South African ID or smart card. 

The South African voters' roll comprises approximately 25 million citizens. More than 9 million people who are eligible to cast their vote are currently not registered”.

“The IEC is hoping to register one million new voters during this weekend's registration campaign. The commission said 10 million registration forms have been delivered to more than 22,000 voting stations”.
