VOTER REGISTRATION DRIVE KICK-OFF ACROSS SA

Voting stations across the country has opened at 8 am to allow first time voters to register and others to check their details for the upcoming municipal elections.

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has revealed that at least nine million South Africans, eligible to vote, are not registered.

The IEC says it has trained thousands of officials to operate the stations today to ensure that people are registered. They are hoping at least one million people will register this weekend.

No one has arrived yet, but they are hoping people will start trickling in in the next few hours.

This is the place where ANC resolute Winnie Madikizela Mandela usually casts her vote.

The ANC Youth League's Morena Parkis says she might pop in today.
