Eskom will invest about 5
million RANDS to renovate the Marapong Community Health Centre in the Lephalale
local municipality in Limpopo, the parastatal said in a statement today.
The project was a public-private partnership
initiative between Eskom, the Health Department, the Lephalale local
municipality, and mining company Exxaro.
Construction activities were
scheduled to start in April and would be completed by the end of August, Eskom
said.
Eskom subsidiary Roshcon was
contracted to carry out the work and would ensure that the local community were
employed. Eskom also donated wheelchairs and HIV/Aids care kits to the Marapong
HIV/Aids Care Group.
Eskom had also invested in
excess of 8.6 million RANDS in a paediatric mobile unit for primary health care
which included eye testing and provision of spectacles, general health, and
dental care for children in primary schools.
