Former Pan Africanist Congress of Azania (PAC) President Motsoko Pheko has described the death of his predecessor, the late Clarence Makwethu as a great loss to the nation.

Makwetu died on Friday at a private hospital at Queenstown in the Eastern Cape after a long illness at the age of 87.

Makwetu, a veteran struggle activist, was PAC president from 1990.
He led the party in the historic 1994 democratic elections before retiring from politics in 1996.

We sympathise very much with the Makwetu family as a whole and we thank them for contributing such a great hero, such a great leader to the African struggle of the African people in this country and we shall always remember them and remember the comrade who has fallen,” said Pheko.
