Former Pan Africanist Congress
of Azania (PAC) President Motsoko Pheko has described the death of his
predecessor, the late Clarence Makwethu as a great loss to the nation.
Makwetu died on Friday at a
private hospital at Queenstown in the Eastern Cape after a long illness at the age of 87.
Makwetu, a veteran struggle
activist, was PAC president from 1990.
He led the party in the
historic 1994 democratic elections before retiring from politics in 1996.
“ We sympathise very much with
the Makwetu family as a whole and we thank them for contributing such a great
hero, such a great leader to the African struggle of the African people in this
country and we shall always remember them and remember the comrade who has
fallen,” said Pheko.
