The Pretoria High Court today will
review an application to appeal a ruling that paved the way for the release of
South African Communist Party (SACP) leader Chris Hani's killer Janusz Walus.
Walus is serving life imprisonment for the 1993 murder of Hani.

Last year, Justice Minister Michael Masutha brought the application to appeal
the parole on grounds that the High Court judge erred in several legal aspects
when reviewing his decision.
Hani's widow Limpho Hani, SACP Deputy Secretary Solly Mapaila and party spokesperson Alex Mashilo are among those attending the hearing.
Mapaila said “he hopes for justice to take its course.

We
expect nothing less but justice for Chris Hani and his family, and the people
of South Africa, and we hope that the decision today will restore confidence in
the judiciary and we hope this will show in respect to the courts that societal
matters must be handled with sensitivity and care.”
