Parliament’s presiding
officers have asked to meet with political party leaders today to discuss the
historic Constitutional Court judgment on the Nkandla matter.
The court found Parliament
failed in its duty to hold President Jacob Zuma accountable for the Nkandla
spending debacle by ensuring compliance with the Public Protector's directives.
The court ruling paved the way
for a failed impeachment bid in the National Assembly last week.
It has also
sparked calls from within the ANC and outside for President Zuma to step down.
National Assembly Speaker
Baleka Mbete and Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces Thandi Modise
have called the meeting.
But it's unclear whether all
party leaders will attend.
United Democratic Movement leader Bantu Holomisa doesn't think it's worth
it.
