A man accused of an arson attack on a train at Cape Town
station is expected to apply for bail next week.
He was taken into custody after several carriages were
gutted in a fire about two weeks ago.
It was one of
several incidents in which Metrorail infrastructure was torched or vandalised
in the city, crippling train services.
The 47-year-old man
faces a charge of arson.
He’s expected back
in the Cape Town Magistrates Court on Monday.
Investigators have linked him to an incident in which 10
coaches were set alight at the Cape Town train station two weeks ago.
Police have yet to
make arrests in connection with other arson attacks and acts of vandalism.
Metrorail has offered a R100,000 reward for information which could lead to
further arrests.
