The City of Cape Town raises concern over land invasions

The City of Cape Town has raised concern around an outbreak of land grabs in several communities over the past few weeks.

The municipality’s anti-land invasion unit has been placed on high alert after seeing a number of attempted illegal occupations, with the most recent one in Mfuleni.

While authorities continue to keep a watchful eye over the Mfuleni community, Human Settlements member Benedicta van Minnen has repeated that land grabs will not be tolerated.

We really urge people not to be manipulated by purported leaders who are encouraging people to attempt to grab land.”

In the latest incident earlier this week, protesters caused havoc in the area after a group of backyard dwellers were stopped from occupying a piece of vacant land.
