A man has been
arrested at Cape Town
International Airport after
he was found in possession of gold valued at around R11, 000.
The man was taken into custody on Tuesday
after customs discovered the gold concealed in a jam jar.
South African
Revenue Service spokesperson Sandile Memela says, that the jam jar was found in
the man’s luggage and it was put through the scan that revealed four metal
stones which was confirmed to be gold bars.
The man and gold
were handed over to the South African Police Service. This is the second gold
bust at an airport this week.
On Monday, a
Lebanese national was arrested at OR Tambo
International Airport after
Sars officials found gold bars worth more than R7 million in his luggage.
