Fifteen people have been arrested following clashes with police at an informal settlement in Grabouw.

Protests erupted in Pineview after authorities started tearing down shacks which had been erected on government-owned land.

Yesterday, a heavy police presence remained in the Pineview area throughout the day.

Authorities had prepared for any eventuality, following the torching of the local Traffic Department.
Resident Ilze Plaaitjies says she’s unsure of the next step and Some people are still living in their homes and she thinks they were allowed to stay.

Besides clashes with resistant residents, police also kept a close eye on children who lit fires on roads and in nearby bushes.
