The alleged mastermind of a social grant fraud syndicate is expected back in court next month.

The woman, from Umhlanga in KwaZulu-Natal, was arrested by the Hawks at Cape Town International Airport two weeks ago.

Nelly Msimango appeared in the Bellville Magistrates Court yesterday where her formal bail application was postponed until 14 July.

She stands accused of being a part of a syndicate that defrauded the South African Social Security Agency of around R34.7 million.

At least 15 other people have appeared in court in connection with the case, with the latest accused making his first appearance alongside Msimango yesterday.

His case has been postponed until next week. It’s unclear whether more arrests are expected
