The
African National Congress says it will not protect members who are found to
have been involved in the recent protests in Tshwane.
Police
continue to monitor the capital following last week's violent protests, sparked
by the announcement of Thoko Didiza as the ANC's mayoral candidate.
Five
people were killed as the unrest spread in areas including Mabopane,
Attridgeville and Mamelodi.
Speaking at the 61st anniversary celebrations of the Freedom
Charter in Kliptown yesterday, party leaders urged supporters not to destroy
property to raise their grievances.
Gauteng ANC Chairperson Paul Mashatile addressed supporters
who came to listen to the city's manifesto, at the home of the adoption of the Freedom Charter, saying the party is aiming to win the metro with a
majority.
He says calm has been restored in Tshwane, and Didiza and
party leaders were on the ground campaigning in various parts of the capital
over the weekend.
