As motorists feel the pinch of
another fuel price hike, the Automobile Association says it doesn't expect this
trend to end, even if the price of oil stabilises.
The price of petrol has from
today increased by 52 cents a litre, while all grades of diesel now cost 76
cents more a litre.
The AA says the weakening rand
against the dollar will continue to affect the prices.
AA spokesperson Layton Bear in
a statement says, at the moment, consumers really are under a lot of pressure.
A lot of services are being
increased, municipal rates and taxes are going up, and on top of that you see
the petrol price going up. So consumers are in for a really hard time at this
moment.
Meanwhile, the
taxi industry says drivers are finding it extremely difficult to stay in
business.
The increases will soon be
passed on to taxi commuters, when the industry reviews its tariffs next month.
The South African National
Taxi Council President Phillip Taaibosch in a statement says, It becomes
difficult when the prices are going up and people would find that Santaco take
a lot of time before they consider the price increases.
He says they are always
looking at their customers and they have never been unreasonable with them.
