The bail application of the two men accused of the rape and
murder of Sinoxolo Mafevuka, who was found dead in a toilet, is expected to
take place in the Khayelitsha Magistrate's Court today.
The two people arrested are cousins of her boyfriend, and
before she died they had apparently confronted her about leaving a bar with
another man.
During their last appearance Investigating Officer Isaac
Tshabalala told Magistrate Xolani Menyiwe in the Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court
that the 19-year-old's boyfriend was still being investigated in connection
with the case.
Deputy Police Minister Maggie Sotyu visited the area after
her murder and demanded to know why the investigation was taking so long.
Tshabalala also spoke of the difficulty investigators
encountered when trying to extract DNA evidence for the case because water had
run over Sinoxolo's body.
The magistrate has ordered that the cousins not be named.
