President Jacob Zuma has released a statement strongly condemning protest violence.

President Jacob Zuma says communities must break their silence and report those taking the country backwards by destroying public property.

Last week, saw violent protests in Tshwane, which led to five people being killed and more than a dozen buses being torched.

The South African Communist Party has charged five of its members in connection with the unrest in the capital, but the ANC is still investigating whether any of its members were involved.

Last night, Zuma released a statement strongly condemning the violence.
