A suspected robber has been killed during a shootout with police in Kraaifontein.

Two officers responded to a robbery yesterday morning, and it’s alleged a group of about eight men opened fire as the South African Police Service members approached them.

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate's Robbie Raburabu says the officers then returned fire, killing one of the suspects.

He says When police returned fire, one of them was shot dead, the others managed to escape.

Then they discovered the firearm of the deceased and the serial number is still being checked by the police.
