Plain residents say recent
abduction attempts of school kids in the Helderberg region has forced them to
improve safety for learners walking to school.
A group of parents and community leaders will be
taking part in what's called a 'walking bus' initiative in the area.
It's aimed at
creating safe and supervised routes for learners walking to and from school.
A group of
volunteers are walking to several schools in Lentegeur this morning, to ensure
that learners arrive there safely.
Parents say pupils are often robbed or threatened by
gangsters while walking to school.
The Western
Cape Community Safety Department says
the 'walking bus' initiative has already been launched in numerous crime
riddled communities.
