70-year old lost her legs and arms after hit by train in Athlone

A woman believed to be 70-years of age is in a critical condition after suffering emputations of her legs and arms after being hit by a train in Athlone, Cape Town, this morning.

ER24 spokesperson Chitra Bodasing says on arrival on scene they treated and transported the woman to hospital for further medical care.

Bodasing says “It is understood that the woman was walking across the train tracks when she was knocked by the train.”

She says “ER24 paramedics and other services attended to the incident. The woman was found lying in the middle of two train tracks. She was conscious but in a critical condition.”

Bodasing adds that “She sustained amputations to both her legs below the knees and both arms below the elbow.”

Authorities were on scene for further investigation.
